Deluxe Vegan Hummus Veggie Wraps

Here’s a great recipe for lunch to take with you to work or even on a hike or picnic as it will travel well if packed as shown. Start with your favorite wraps. I like these “Extreme Wellness” ones because they just sound like they’re perfect for the “Total Health Plan” I follow! Who knows what’s really in them. I don’t dare look.

When it’s time to actually assemble them, open the wrap and pile on the ingredients on only one side (half) of the wrap. Drizzle on the Bragg Healthy Vinegarette dressing and fold it shut like a taco. Don’t roll it up like a burrito. The hummus will hold it together. You’ll need a plate since it might be a little drippy. Your friends will be green with envy as they eat their microwave burrito and you enjoy these super fresh veggie wraps. Only about 250 calories a piece, depending on the wraps you choose. Good luck!

Gypsy Chili

This quick vegan chili is surprisingly good!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 onions chopped
  • 1 green (or red) pepper chopped
  • 1 jalapeno sliced and diced seeds and all
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt or other natural salt
  • 1/2 +/- teaspoon cayenne pepper (instead of black pepper)
  • 2 zucchini halved lengthwise and then sliced thin (4mm) crosswise
  • 2 carrots sliced thin (3mm)
  • 1 heaping tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 cans (19 ounces each) organic black beans, drained
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes (use Mexican green chili tomato instead)
  • 1 package frozen corn kernels (or two ears cut off the cob)
  • 1 package extra firm tofu cut into 1cm cubes
  • 2 cups sliced okra
  • 3 cups vegetable broth

Directions

1. In a 5-quart heavy pot heat oil over medium high heat and add the onion, green peppers, garlic, salt and cayenne. Stir for a few minutes until the onions start to melt (about 4 minutes).

2. Stir fry the tofu cubes with the tasty onions et al. It’ll be great if you can brown it a little.

3. Add zucchini, carrots, okra, chili powder, cumin and 1 cup of vegetable broth. Cook stirring occasionally until carrots are crisp tender (about 8 minutes). Add beans, tomatoes, corn and the remaining vegetable broth. Simmer until thickened and carrots are soft (about 30 minutes or half a day in a crock pot). If I’ve left out any ingredients, add them now!

Cure for Mono

This natural supplement program cured my 19 year old son of mono in 7-10 days instead of the weeks or even months the MD said to expect. He had huge alien egg looking growths in the back of his throat. It was horrible!!! But it was like it never happened in about a week! The crazy thing is, the MD when presented with his miraculously cured patient didn’t even want to hear about the supplements below. We might as well have told him we cured it with voodoo.

Sorry about all the spelling errors!

B-12
Olive leaf extract
Echincacea 2-3 per day
Super Malic
100 mg magnesium 3 times per day*
300 mg malic acid 3 times per day*

Vitamin C 1000-2000 mg ever hour until person feels better
Citrus biflavonoids 1000 mg every few hours (makes C more effective)

Alpha Lipoic (ALA)

Green phyto foods — spirulina, chlorella (drink)

* for generalized fatigue. Don’t overdo as it can cause loose stools.

Eat a grapefruit before bed and God will send you interesting dreams

It is usually best to sleep on an empty stomach so your body can concentrate on cleansing instead of digestion (see: Breakfast: the least important meal of the day).  But occasionally you might want to add some muscle to the cleaning supplies in the form of a grapefruit.

Grapefruits are powerful cleansers with many health benefits, but they also possess the power to summon dreams.  I can go weeks without recollecting a single moment of a dream, but when I have a grapefruit before bed nine times out of ten I’ll have bizarre, moving dreams.  Maybe not pleasant, but noteworthy!

Recipe:
Wash the grapefruit.  Slice into quarters.  Bend the peels backward and rip out the fruit.  Cut off the hard stringy centers and seeds with a razor sharp knife.  Cut into bite size chunks and eat the whole thing.  Go right to bed.  You’ll see!

Breakfast, the Least Important Meal of the Day

My first college roommate, Rudolph Chuk Ying Chung was thrown out of his first US apartment by friends Ivan and Rocko. They three were from Hong Kong and apparently selected their American names based on 1940′s gangster movies.

In modern times millions of misguided Asians have emulated the Western diet to their collective detriment. Rudolph was no exception, living off a cadaver-based diet, which might have accounted for his youthful zombie look.

One morning I was preparing to visit the UT swim complex and invited Rudolph to come along. I had a towel and made swimming motions with my arms. He got the idea and gravely nodded he’d come. “Wait. Need food for energy”, he said opening the fridge. He gulped down two cold hot dogs and a glass of milk. We walked to the gym, the skinny vegetarian and Chinese dude both grinning.

I began to swim laps in the Olympic size indoor pool, mostly along the bottom where I like it. It was eight feet deep or more, a huge open blue space. I could see Rudolph’s legs waggling vertically above on a return lap. When I came up for air the lifeguard was yelling and whistling at Rudolph to let go of the lane divider. Obediently he did and sank directly to the bottom where he stood struggling to get back to the surface. He had to be rescued. We left the pool and the gym in disgrace. I had done two laps. That was our first and last time at the pool.

Rudolph made the mistake so many do, that eating gives you energy. It does but not right away, not by a long shot. The energy you have now comes from breathing and the foods you ate, and managed to digest yesterday and the days before. Your muscles are cells that are ready to go now and are fed oxygen as they perform. Food sitting in your stomach drawing blood and energy to it for digestion might as well be in someone else’s body for all the good it does you.

More important is the fact that your body operates in two modes: digestion and cleansing. After a meal has been assimilated, the body goes about repairs, rebuilding and housekeeping. It’s pretty single minded in this and drops the repair/cleansing operation and focuses on digestion when food arrives. That’s one reason sleep is so essential. It’s the one time when we stop eating! When you eat breakfast you break the little fast all too soon. It might make you feel better, grounded, full, not distracted by hunger. But eating hasn’t given you energy.

Keep your fast going! Have some herb tea and lots of water. The less you eat the better you feel! Hold out for mid morning and have fruit, then a raw vegetable salad for lunch. Your energy levels will grow. Your body and belly will thank you for the relief.

Fast Tuesday

Disclaimer: I have no medical training, thank God, or I’d be on drugs instead of a healthy raw food diet and exercise program. Before doing the same, think twice about consulting a physician.

Paul Bragg taught that you should fast one day each week and do a three day (minimum) fast once a month. Although I fast every now and then for three to five days on just water, I’ve never gotten on the once a week fast program. Starting today, though, I’m fasting on Tuesdays.

Your body operates in two modes:

  • digesting
  • cleansing

With the non-stop digestion we normally subject our bodies to, we’re lucky if digestion even stops during sleep, and before you know it it’s breakfast time! Taking an entire day, from dinner the evening before through breakfast the day after, gives your body a needed break to cleanse and repair.

Digestion takes huge amounts of energy. When you’re fasting all that energy shifts not only to cleansing and repair, but to you to do actual work such as going about your daily life.

If you’re half way healthy you should be able to fast one day without too much misery. If you immediately begin to feel ill, you are probably swimming in toxins and need fasting and a raw food diet desperately.

Aside from the health benefits, Fast Tuesday also:

  • Saves you 1/7 on your food bill!
  • Reduces and firms up your waistline.
  • Gives you extra time you would spend on food preparation, eating and cleanup. For me that means sleeping a little later than my usual 4:45 and not having to spend an hour after dinner washing, peeling, slicing, chopping and packing my breakfast smoothie and salad for lunch.
  • Lets you concentrate on drinking more water and breathing deeply.
  • Gives you time at lunch to catch up on work or take a nice walk.
  • Gives you a chance to abstain from negative thoughts and emotions. If you can resist food, you can with the same effort and willpower resist thinking ill of Life and those around you.

When you’re fasting, a good way to keep from “loosing it” and eating is to think about that food orgy you want so bad. It will last such a short while and then afterward you’re just normal you again, not super you! Just not worth it.

Fasting also makes you appreciate natural foods thinking how even an apple would be so incredible right about now.

Going to bed Tuesday night is like Christmas Eve as a kid, thinking about being able to eat again in just a few short hours!

Try it. Eat a healthy, mostly raw dinner and plenty of water on Monday, apple cider vinegar before bed, and then Fast Tuesday on just water. On Wednesday keep it going with fruit for breakfast. You will be rejuvenated!

If you want to learn all about fasting, I recommend Paul Bragg’s book “The Miracle of Fasting.”

If you follow the High Raw Happiness lifestyle to the best of your ability you will feel better each day, ultimately vanishing in a beam of light.

HRH score for the day: 73, or beam of light slipping away! Today is another day. Thank God.

The Elixir of Life

The Elixir of Life is a health drink made from Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) and Black Strap Moleasses (BSM), or sometimes honey instead. The recipe is a tall glass of water, 16 oz or more, with 2 – 3 tbsp of BSM (or honey) and 3 – 4 tbsp of ACV. I usually don’t use honey because I get so much of it in tea throughout the day. BSM is a better blood strengthener than honey. They’re just different.

Fill the glass 1/3 of the way and nuke it for 40 seconds, stir in the BSM/honey, then add cold water after the thick stuff is melted in. To this add the ACV, the idea being not to cook the raw apple cider vinegar.

Use raw, organic, unpasteurized, apple cider vinegar. I recommend the Bragg brand because Paul Bragg, founder of the “health food store” back in the 20′s and 30′s, is my hero. He died at age 93 from complications following a surfing accident. Paul Bragg even wrote a book about ACV Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar Health System.

Poke around on line and you’ll find a lot of information on both sides of the ACV story. I can’t confirm the claims, but I do know that a glass before bed and upon arising, and at midday on weekends, leaves me feeling cleansed. I also eat way too much food but seem to be holding steady at 155 pounds. I feel great, the best in my life. Is it the Elixir of Life?

Consider the episode of The Beverly Hillbillies where Mr. Drysdale found out that Granny had a cure for the common cold. He was so excited. They were going to be rich, rich, rich! All episode long he was counting his money and coming up with marketing schemes. Finally at the end of the episode Granny revealed the cure. It was as she had said, just a teaspoon of her secret formula. That, and a week to ten days of bed rest along with plenty of fluids and you’ll be good as new! Wah, wah.

Similarly, I take the Elixir of Life and have lost all my excess weight and feel like a kid, but I also eat nothing but fruit, vegetables, rice, grains and nuts. No caffeine, alcohol, sugar, dairy, white flour or any processed, unnatural substances. I also exercise a lot by walking, cycling and mountain biking. So I can’t really credit the Elixir of Life for all my results. It is a critical component though!

Anecdotal Evidence

My grandfather used to drink his “mixture” every night after dinner. It was vinegar and honey in a tall glass of water. He lived to a ripe old age and even survived and completely recovered from being hit by a car crossing the street in Franklin in his 80′s. The doctor said he was “as tough as an old hickory nut.” I am sure it was the mixture.

My cousin, a generation older than I, has chronic high cholesterol. Has had it for 30 years. He started taking the Elixir of Life. After his latest medical exam his doctor called him with the news that his cholesterol was inexplicably in the normal range for the first time ever!

Here are some of the many health claims you’ll find about ACV on line…
From: http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/acvinegar.html
“Apple Cider Vinegar, that wonderful old-timers home remedy, cures more ailments than any other folk remedy — we’re convinced! From the extensive feedback we’ve received over the past 8 years, the reported cures from drinking Apple Cider Vinegar are numerous. They include cures for allergies (including pet, food and environmental), sinus infections, acne, high cholesterol, flu, chronic fatigue, candida, acid reflux, sore throats, contact dermatitis, arthritis, and gout. One reader reported that a shot of ACV saved him from going to the emergency room for heart pain. Apple Cider Vinegar also breaks down fat and is widely used to lose weight. It has also been reported that a daily dose of apple cider vinegar in water has high blood pressure under control in two weeks!
Apple Cider Vinegar is also wonderful for pets, including dogs, cats, and horses. It helps them with arthritic conditions, controls fleas & barn flies, and gives a beautiful shine to their coats!
If you can get over the taste of apple cider vinegar, you will find it one of the most important natural remedies in healing the body. As a wonderful side effect of drinking apple cider vinegar every day, we’ve discovered that it brings a healthy, rosy glow to one’s complexion! This is great news if you suffer from a pale countenance.”

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

The Wonder “Drug” of Yesterday and Today

The powerful health and healing qualities of natural Apple Cider Vinegar have been known and used since 3,000 B.C. Included are remedies for 36 ailments using Apple Cider Vinegar; the merits and make-up of its enzymes, minerals and trace minerals explained; and a living testimony, and her introduction to “nature’s perfect food” and an ancient Biblical wonder.

What about the Black Strap Moleasses?

The claims for BSM are just about as astounding as for ACV, so I figure the two combined truly are the Elixir of Life.

We have emails from our readers about blackstrap molasses curing cancerous tumors, fibroid tumors, anxiety, constipation, edema, heart palpitations, anemia, arthritic pain, joint pain, and acne, just to name a few. It has also been reported that molasses turns gray hair back to its original color and is a wonderful skin softener!

Grapefruit Orange Strawberry Carrot Spinach Green Smoothie

This green smoothie is super fast to make, tastes pretty good and makes you feel great. The spinach and carrots make it more “solid” for digestion purposes, if you catch my drift. Very important.

Add ingredients to the blender any order:

  • 2-4 cups loosely chopped spinach (rotate greens like kale and dandelion greens)
  • 2 carrots cut up as small as your blender requires (1/4 inch thick slices seems OK in my $80 Cuisinart)
  • 1 grapefruit (slice in quarters, rip off peels, cut out hard stringy centers and seeds, cut quarters in thirds or halves)
  • 1 orange (same treatment as grapefruit)
  • 6 strawberries (I leave the green tops and leaves on if they look nice and fresh)
  • 1 tbsp flax oil
  • Supplements you have handy (D3, B complex, multivitamin, Resveratrol, probiotics)
  • 2 cups OJ or pomegranate juice

Blend on “chop” first, then work up to liquefy and let her rip for at least a minute. Don’t want any big globs!
Makes a lot and you will easily go until lunch on this! All you need for a meal! In fact, I bet a person could live on this alone for life.

Picture Recipe

Spinach

Kale

Carrots

Grapefruit and [blood] orange (strawberries not shown)

Supplements and pomegranate juice (blurry)

Ready to hit the button!

That’s it! Blend on Max for up to two minutes or until blender motor starts to smoke. Don’t be afraid to try a spoonful while it’s going to see if it’s smooth enough. Makes a lot!

Super good for you!
